Folklore communicates not only with the past but also with the present and future. We can identify it with the passage of a river as it continues moving and gains through changes and variability. The innumerable proverbs, riddles, folktales, folk narratives, folksongs and ballads, manners and mannerisms and everything that is called culture which one learns or acquires as a member of the society.

These are interpreted and reinterpreted in a newer vision or setting. These suggest the creativity of folklore. Every human society with its culture, be it tribal, peasant or industrialized, has its folklore either made or remade and is ready to be transmitted as verbal art. And herein the modernity of folklore stands. Modernity, in fact is a state of mind that reflects in action or behavior of persons who live in-groups or communities, having common identity ort sentiments, beliefs and rituals or language – local or dialectical, suggesting a distinct culture or subculture.

Modernity begins with industrialization. It is a continuous and ‘open-ended’ process. But one should, however, remember that modernity is not ‘a once and for all time’ achievement. It has also its changes and transformation. The primitive people when moved on as small bands of hunters and food gatherers developed technology for their survival against natural calamities.
