The name of the organization shall be “Bangladesh Institute of Folklore and Community Development” (BIFCD) hereinafter referred to as the organization. The Organization shall be a non-governmental, non-profitable, non-political, non-partisan and non-religious denominational charitable organization.

The primary objective of the Institute was to conduct research programs focused on collecting and disseminating folklore materials to enhance the understanding of Bengali culture.

The Bangladesh Institute for Folklore and Community Development (BIFCD), formerly known as the Folklore Research Institute (established in 1985 and registered with the Social Welfare Department), is a non-governmental organization (NGO) with a mission to safeguard and advance the diverse cultural heritage of Bangladesh. BIFCD received official registration with the NGO Bureau on 20/9/2022. Their primary focus involves collaborating with marginalized communities in rural areas of Bangladesh to identify, document, and rejuvenate traditional folklore and cultural practices. BIFCD’s approach to community development centers around profound respect for local knowledge, customs, and traditions. They actively engage community members to comprehend their needs and priorities, allowing them to design relevant and effective programs and initiatives. Besides their cultural preservation efforts, BIFCD also implements community development programs encompassing areas like health, education, and economic empowerment. The impact of BIFCD’s programs and initiatives on the communities they serve has been significant. They have successfully revitalized traditional arts and crafts, advocated for gender equality, improved access to education and healthcare, and created economic opportunities. To research on folklore, decrease poverty, to increase economic self capacity, earn social respect and awareness building of fundamental rights through ensuring food, health, education, income of women, youth and geriatric in urban and rural area and women empowerment.

— Our Story

The Folklore Research Institute in Kushtia was established through private initiative in 1970, during the time when East Pakistan was under colonial rule as part of Pakistan. The primary objective of the Institute was to conduct research programs focused on collecting and disseminating folklore materials to enhance the understanding of Bengali culture. However, the course of history soon changed with the onset of the war of independence, leading to the emergence of Bangladesh as an independent and sovereign nation with a rich heritage.

OBJECTIVES OF THE ORGANIZATION

3.1) To improve the living standard of women and children who are in need of assistance, by providing them education and vocational training programmes in order to make them socially active individuals.

3.2) To ensure Child wellbeing according to UNCRC and protect, secure them all sorts of abuses.

3.3) To provide advice and necessary assistance to members of the society who are deprived of their rights.

3.4) To provide renewable energy solar, ICS (Improve Cooking System) Chula and water with sanitation to the village people those who are deprived their rights from the society.

3.5) The main objective of this organisation is to arrange sustainable environmental resource management program to ensure food and livelihood security of the poor community of the south west region.

3.6) To improve community base aqua culture at village in a canal near about three acres of land. This organization will demonstrate scientific aqua culture technology and disseminating the technology to the community farmers.

3.7) To establish an alternative mechanism of livestock related compost production and to promote biomass basis composting such as aerobic composting.

3.8) To establish farmer’s ownership on seed, the organization will take initiative to produce quality rice seed and provide them to technology support.

3.9) To work and collect garbage from houses and to deposit one selected place for preparing compost which is used as organic fertilizer to the agro land.

3.10) To conduct programs for Conservation of Bio-diversity and Natural esources.

3.11) To provide vocational training program for people who cannot afford conventional education. This includes training program for sewing, handicraft, poultry farming, IGA training.

3.12) To Establish and ensure Primary health care support free of cost. To establish mobile health care camp in community level. To assist women and newborn infant during and before the time of childbirth.

3.13) Fisheries & Agriculture: To undertake technical support, and training program on fisheries and Agriculture for ensuring food security.

3.14) To conduct such activities as Collecting data, publication, hold seminars, Workshop and trainings and other appropriate activities for achieving the Vision and Mission.

3.15) To undertake Income Generating programs through creating self-help group with their savings; and create a revolving loan fund from their savings and IGA training.

3.16) To remove all sorts of injustice, trafficking of human, torture on women, child marriage and dowry and superstition from society and thus create a healthy social atmosphere.

3.17) To uphold human rights, legal aid, inquiry in to human rights cases and to set up arbitration centre and to give legal assistance to the suffering people.

3.18) To give aid and assistance for implementing prevention of drug addiction, anti terrorism, HIV/AIDS prevention and anti tobacco program at local and international level and to take up programs accordingly.

3.19) To conduct activities on water pollution prevention, stagnant water, drainage and sanitation etc.

3.20) To set up shelter for the shelter less oppressed out men/women and orphan boys and girls. To work disaster management on pre and post disaster in the coastal and disaster prone area of Bangladesh.

3.21) To strive for prevention of the extinct plants, birds and beasts by taking legal ways and means for preservation of natural resources and protection of forest and environment.

3.22) To take up programs for fish culture, plantation with nursery, construction of dam, excavation of ponds, vegetable gardening, establishing poultry and dairy firms, set up hospital to alleviate poverty.

3.23) To implement the disable rights and to aware and trained up the people on disable development and to ensure the disable in person to rehabilitation and materials disbursement. To set up disable school and college.

3.24) To foster development of agriculture, forestry, fisheries and livestock through awareness activities, training and materials support and will available of quality seed. So, society will produce and supply of quality seed among the farmers.

3.25) To make plan and program for removal of traffic jam and make the city or town free from such traffic jam and help the law and order enforcing authority apply law in transport sector and ensure development and prevent road accident by making necessary arrangement for the training and motivation of the drivers of the motor vehicle and rickshaw pullers and to utilize their talent and strengthen the national development.
